With Hollywood starlets getting Botox before being legally able to rent a car, today’s society is youth obsessed. Even if forty is the new thirty, everyone would still rather be twenty. You may not be ready to go under the knife for a youthful looking face but thankfully there are some easy ways to look younger without the pain and cost.
1. Hydration
This is an old piece of advice but a great one nonetheless. Think of your skin like a grape. When you’re hydrated, your skin stays puffy and soft. When you’re dehydrated, you prune up like a raisin. Don’t like that visual? Then make sure you drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
2. Wear Less Make-up
Caking on make-up might work on the red carpet but in your day-to-day life, it’s not going to work. Heavy make-up makes your wrinkles stand out and your face look tired. Instead use concealer on trouble spots, put on a light powder rather than foundation, and for the love of god, put down the black eyeliner. Stick to brown or gray eyeliners for a smoky, smoldering look.
3. Dress (Slightly) Younger
Let me start by assuring you this is not free license to raid the girls’ section of your local mall. If you’re pushing forty, stay away from Forever 21. It’s a fine line to straddle but dress slightly younger than you are. Showing up to your fiftieth birthday in a romper is going to make your friends cringe but buying an above-the-knee length dress will make you look hip and modern.
4. Act Younger
There will always be people who make you stand back and ask, “Wait, you’re how old?!” Whether it’s a 75 year old first-time snowboarder or a 45 year old woman getting down on the dance floor, the one thing they all have in common is they act young. You don’t have to go back to your binge-drinking college days but be open to new activities and experiences. Because let’s face it, you’re not getting any younger.
