My skinny jeans still hold a place in my heart, but there’s lots of tempting new looks out this year. Thanks to a higher rise, the new jeans styles are easier to wear than they have been for some time. Now you don’t have to worry about what top to wear, bloating, or any of the other problems us non-model types face. For 2011, we can look hot without looking skanky!
Right now, jeans shorts are making a big comeback, and I’ve seen them in every variation: rolled cuff, cutoffs, mid-thigh length, and classic short shorts. There’s loads of embellished styles, from scruffs to patches to rhinestones, bits of bright color, etc., and that applies to longer jeans as well. Trouser-cut jeans shorts can be worn anywhere, and look so pulled together with a striped top.
Embellished jeans can also mean artfully distressed, and I’m seeing everything from acid-washed to ripped. Something called Motorcycle jeans are downright scary with their stains and rips and patches, but you’ve got to admire the woman with the confidence to pull off that look.
Jeans jackets have never really gone out of style, but they are definitely more IN style this year, and the great thing is that there is no one “right” way to wear them. Their structured nature makes a neat contrast when worn with a sundress or over layers of soft tanks and tees.
Wide-legged jeans and flares are in all the stores, and there’s probably a variation to fit every body type, too. The new flare starts above the knee, giving them a gentler line than bell-bottoms. The wide-legged styles are wide through the whole leg, and look so elegant in softer weights of denim. Both styles have the new higher waist lines, and make a refreshing change in looks.
